Pilgrims v Hawkes Bay County
The following verses have been handed to us for publication by the " Poet " who accompanied the County team on their recent visit to Hawkes Bay : — On a Summer's day Cricket's the best game of all When we've got jolly fellows to meet, Men who play for the game's sake, or play not at all. Chorus — Bat and ball, bat and ball, Willow Wielding's the best game of all. Fielding so clever, and trundling the leather, Three cheers for the stumps, bat and ball. Fortune favored the County throughout the day's play. She's a fickle dame, Cricketer's know. The West Coast; we may visit sometime I daresay Pr'haps then she won't give us a show. We'll chalk up in big letters, the reddest of red, The resulfc of this afternoon's play, For the men we have beaten may safely be said To rank firsfc in the game that they play. Left-handers are awkward wifch bat and with ball, Cook and Entwisle to-day so seem. Feilding's Sherwill at fielding knocked spots off them all, Right good fellow to Captain a team.
