I PEK ONITKD PIJKSS ASSOCIATION. f Nelson, January 29. Very general regret is expressed at the news of the death at Dunedm of Mr "WE. Farrer, late manager of the Bank of New South Wales here. Auckland, January 29 Frank Vaile, aged 16, was drowned today while swimming in the dam of the Chelsea Sugar Works. A man named McCarthy tried to rescue him but failed. The boy was the son. of Mr J..8. Vaile, who resides at Mount Eden. Lytt elton, January 30. The trial of the Akaroa election case commenced to-day before Judges Williams «nd Denniston. Mr Fisher appeared for the petitioner, and Sir 8.. Stout and Mr Donnelly for respondent. There were several witnesses. Woodville, January 30. Mrs Carlile, the wife of Mr W. Carlile, settler, of Wooiville, was drowned this afternoon while bathing in the Wangiatua Creek. Hokitik a. January 30. A young man named James Lenoahan. -committed suicide at Dillman's yesterday afternoon by setting fire to some fuze, putting the end or it into a flask of powder, and placing the fiask under his neck. Death was instantaneous. A welUknown resident of Hokitik a named Tom Smith, a carpenter, was found dead in the river this afternoon. He went across in a boat to get a load of drift wood, and it is supposed that he noticed the boat had got loose and swam out to vet it, took cramp, and got drowned. Wellington, January 30. Out of a shipment of 370 stoats and weasels consigned to the Wairarapa North Babbit Board,' only 50 arrived, thus entailing a loss of several hundred pounds. The charge against Daniel Jobberns of obtaining goods from Arthur and Co. by alleged false pretences was dismissed, but the Magistrate stated that it was competent for the plaintiff to prosecute under " The Vexatious Indictment Act 1870 ',
