The following ' circular has been issued to officers commanding Volunteer dis-' tricts from the Defence Office, Wellington : — - " " The prize firing~for 1891 will be as follows : A pro rata distribution of the sum voted by Parliament will be made to districts, and the. amounts allocated will be divided into such district prizes as may be determined by the officer commanding the district and officers commanding corps. The competition will be decided by the- figure of merit made by each corps at volley firing, which will be cirried out as atf present, with the followin 1 ? alterations : Each corps will parade on the day and hour appointed by the officer commanding the district, and fire .10 rounds at volley firing. The- score made by those present will be added up, divided by the actual enrolled strength of .the corps on that date, exclusive of officers, sergeants and bugleis, and the quotient then arrived at will be the figure of merit of tlie corps. - • EXAMPLE.
