•These sports came off. on Anniversary Day in a paddock 'kindly lent "for, the occasion by Mr Mitchell. Favored by a beautiful day- the opportunity was seized by most of the residents of the district, though owing doubtless to other attractions the attendance of the outside public was very limited. The sports as a whole were very successful, Wd the various officials were unremitting in their endeavors to make things "go". well, The following were the results : —
100 Yards District Handicap — P Nolan, v scr, v 1 ; D L Sanson, lyd, 2. Two others ran. Won by a foot. 100 Yards Race for Boys under 16 years — B Kilgour',' syds, 1 ; "W Mills, scr, 2. ' Three, others ran. H Beatson, 10yds, was the first to touch the tape, but ■was afterwards jdisqualified for not being a resident of the district. Running Long Jump— D Sanson, 18ft 6in, 1 ; P Nolan, 17ft 9in; 2. ' - ' 440 Yards Handicap — G' Richardson, scr, 1 ; D Sanson, scr, 2. Three 'others ran. Running High Jump — D Sanson, 4ft 10£in,-l ; P- Nolan, 4ft 9in, 2. H Terry, A Barrow arid W D Banks also competed. 1 Mile Walk (open)— H Whishaw,35yds, 1; J Clark, scr, ,2. Three others started, but retired 1 at various parts of the _ «ourse,-leaving the result to' be fought out "between ' the scratch and limit man, the latter winning all out by 20 yards. 100 Yards Race for Boys under 10 years — R Barrow, 1 ; W Tappin, 2. Ten others ran. High Jump for Horses — H Stewart's br gelding; 1 ; J Stewart's b g Tommy, 2. Three others competed. Sack Race — C McFarlane, 1 ; W London, 2. Banks and Templer'also ran. Steeplechase, fort a sweepstake of 5s . each with £1 added ; second horse to save his stake — J Stewart's Tommy, 1 ; E Perry's blk gelding, 2. Three others
started. This event -caused considerable amusement, especially Stewart's smartness in remounting 'at full speed after falling off. The course, which was once round the paddock, was one calculated to astonish the^weak nerves of any one not accustomed to the bush". 1 Mile Handicap (open) — G Richardson, 1 ; A J Pettigrew.and W London, 2. In this event, five started all from the mark. A very ;good race ensued, Richardson winning by about 18 inches, the next two being a dead heat.Egg and Spoon Race for Boys — R Kilgour, 1; J Perry, 2.- Ten others ran. This race caused considerable amuse juent, some of the competitors .being tinable to get more than a yard at a time. ; Hop, Step and Jump — P Nolan, 1 ' D Sanson, 2. "haw also ran. Tbe general opinion was that the order of the finish in this race might easily have been reversed. Three lejrged lace— Sanson and Whishaw won easily. Two other couples also ran. 100 Yards Eace for Girls over 17-^F. JCilg'Ti I',1 ', 1 ; — Humphries, 2. ~ Three others entered. Egg aud Spoon Kaces on'horFebaok— D Kiigour, *l/ _ Ten others , competed. J Stewart came in second but a protest was entered on the ground of unfair dealing ■with the egg. The protest will be",considered at a meeting of the committee to be held on Wednesday This «vent caused 'an immense amount of fun as the competitors t had to ', start 'dismounted. The vauouS' tnanceuyres executed by some of them in their endeavors to get round the course were more credit to their-ingenuity than their honesty. Tilting at the' Emg— W Mitchell, 1 ; J Stewart, 2. Thirteen others competed. The winners, tied with six rings out of a possible 12, and ,io the run off Mitchell took 3 out of 4 while Stewart a- -tl'l only get 2. The ,wiuner was .gm- .■<! with cheers'. Tins event brought the day r to aclose,'and:the committee are to be congratulated on providing a' very- peasant day's outing which it-is to.be hoped will, become an annual event. , ,
