The Feilding Star. THURSDAY, JAN. 15, 1891. The Pemberton Settlement

The members of the Pemberton Settlement Association will be glad to learn that Mr Macarthur, our local member, has made on arrangement with the Gorerument which will put the affairs of the Association ou a sound footing. It will be fresh in the minds of our reader* that the late secretary of the Association, Mr Dudley Eyre, absconded from the colony after having embessled the greater part of tbe funds, leaving certain monies, due to the Goveruuwnt on laud for purchase and survey fees. The Association craved and obtained the assistance of Mr Bruce and Mr Wilson, M.H.R.6, but these gentlemen were unable, although they did tiieir best, to a b tain any concession from the Government.. To Mr Macarthur has been given the merit of success, and terms uf adjustment have at laat bee* decided upon. They are as follows:—The Association pays up the purchase money of the township (£464), and the. Government waive their claim for £165 of survey fees in consideratiou *»f the exceptional circumstances of too cuse.
