Escutchon (by Musket — Eosette) who won the Hopetoun Cup, 1£ miles, at the late V-A.T.C. Meeting (Vie), in the fast time of 2min 6£sec has established the record for the colonies, Carbine's 2min 7sec being the previous record,. Escutcheon, who was bred at Sylvia Park, was sold by Mr Sam Powell, of Wanganui, to Mr F. Bell, who took him and Eossiter to Australia, where both of them haye succeeded in winning races. The winner of the Maiden Steeplechase at Auckland on Boxing Day was Mr P. E. Daniell's " Asper " and not Clasper as Clasper as telegraphed. Asper will be well remembered as the winner of the Feilding and Marton Hunt Club Cups. He was engaged in the Auckland Steeplechase at lOst slbs, run yesterday.
