On the 24th December whilst Leon Bruis, a lad of 17 years of age, was reefing the upper foretopsail, he fell into the sea. Although the vessel was hoye to and a life- >uoy throw*, nothing was seen of the unfortunate boy. Wellington, This Day. Wirenui Wharepa died in gaol yesterday. Decased was undergoing a life sentence for murder, committed at the Ghatham Islands 10 years ago, and has been ailing for the past six years from a complication of diseases. A verdict of natural causes was returned. The JLiikoura from London via way ports Is now entering the harbour. Invercargill, This Day. Petitions to the Government against calls to the Legislative Council already bear some hundred names.
