A New Power
Oub contemporary the Dunedia Star says: — The most remarkable fact in! connection with the elections — one I likely to have a distinct effe t ft r good or evil on the future of the { Colony — is the return of over twenty j candidates on what is known as the labor ticket. If theßa honorable gen tlemen stick together in the House as loyally as their suppo t*rs have in the several election contests, they will constitute a power which baa to be reckoned with, and be in a position to dictate terms to any Government. In the interests of the people of New Zealand, it is to be hoped that they will use well their power and opportunities, and prove tl a they were in earnest when they declared at the hustings that they would not, if elected, be mere dele gates of a class, but .vould endeavor conscientiously to do their duty to the whole community. There are men among them of worth, merit, and undoubted ability ; some few of parliamentary experience. The work which lies Hefore them is very serious— their responsibilities are gieat. We ourselves believe that they will individually recognise these responsibilities and, as a body, act so as to merit the confidence which has been reposed in them. ' , . .
