(FROM OtTB OWH CORBESPOXDENT.) Last week Mr Claphaui had a narrow escape from serious injury or loss of life. He was near some bushfellers at work, and a tree in falling went straight for him. Mr Clapham tried to get clear, but only partially succeeded as the limbs and branches came all round him. He was only slightly hurt on the leg. A few days ago, when Mrs Robert Stewart was crossing the Oroua river she was washed off her horse and was nearly drowned. This is the third person who has been washed off their horses when fording this dangerous part of the river. It is the earnest desire of everyone here that a suitahle bridge will be built before any fatal accidents occur. A very heavy hailstorm passed over the block recently. Some of the hailstones measured half an inch through the centre* Shearing is now in full swing here and some ewes have clipped lttylbs of wool. They are rolling fat. The other night a mother asked her first born : " "Willy, have you said your prayers?" "Yea, mother," Turning to a younger hopeful the mother said : "My boy, now say your prayers." "No, mother, I shan't, let Willy say them for me." The astonished mother said: " Well you can't go to heaven with Willy." "No," replied the boy, "but I will go in behind him."
