MANCHESTER SQUARE.
TO THB BDITOH OP THE 81 AR. Sir, — I hear that the Feilding Borough Council propose diverting the road* through Manchester Square and planting the iaclosure with trees, thus improving the appearance of the town. Ido not object to beautifying the town if other more important works were constructed first. £ think it would be better if the Council would construct footpaths in Manchester street, and thereby protect pedestrians from the constant danger they are placed in, especially on sale days and during the night. If the Council had not sufficient funds to construct footpaths in the main streets, I believe the property owners would willingly give £ for £ to improve the sidewalks opposite their holdings in our very badly lighted streets. In conclusion, I hope every ratepayer will attend the meeting tomorrow night and protest against their money being squandered in. such- needless works.— l am, he. Eatepayeb. .
