LP«SB UNITED PRP.SS ASSOCIATION.,' LYTTELTON, October 16. The s.s. Kaha. from the Chatham Islands, brings news of a quantity of wreckage having been washed up there. The articles include a life-buoy, with the letters " SSAY ; " candle- boxes ,• part of a companion ; a case of spirits marked '.'I "'in diamond, 68. Wellington : part of a piano ; cases of varnish, marked 44 D " and "W ; " others addressed Government Office, Wellington, and marked 14 A 334625" over *' 1942." It is presumed to be part of the cargo of the barque Assaye, now posted as missing. Welling on, October IFj The Government steamer flinamoa, which left tha Bluff on the Bth inst., was to go up the West Co-sfc as far as Big Bay, and then proceed to the Snarej, Auckland, Campbell, and Bounty Islands with a view of searching for castaways. The Hinemoa is expected to arrive at Dunedin. from the islands on the Ist or 2nd of next month, and she will probal ly briug news tfliat will clear up the mystery.
