(PER UNITED PREBS ASSOCIATION.) Melbourne, October 5. The New Zealanders, Cuirassier and Leopold, arrived at Caulfield on Saturday, where the Queenslanders, Abacus, Yowi and King William, are doing good work, especially the former, who is moving with great freedom. Dunkeld, the favorite for the Caulfield Cup, who was absent from the track for a couple of days last week, executed a strong half-pace gallop over two miles on Saturday. Sultan and Shotover have been struck out of the Caulfield Cup and Medallion and Cardigan out of the Melbourne Cup. Nothing but Little Bernie is inquired for about the Caulfield Cup at 100 8. The Derby betting is 3 to 1 Titan,. 7 to 2 Gibraltar. The Queen has been backed for the Melbourne Cup at 1000 to 45. Christchurch, October 4. Training operations in view of the Canterbury Metropolitan Meeting are becoming interesting. The N.Z. Cup candidates, Merrie England and Dudu, are doing excellent work. The former is still favorite at 100 to 20, but betting is quiet.
