A meetiog of ten thousand railway men at Finsbury passed resolutions of sympathy with the Australian strikers, ■ and made collections in their aid. Sydhby, Sept. 23. The conditions on which the steamer owners are prepared to engage labour are published. Strike matters are quiet all over Aui- . tralia. ■ Melboubne, September 23. / The Employers' Union, after a long 7 deliberation, has agreed to propose to the Employers' Union* in other colonies that a conference should be held- with the labour representatives, provided the : principles laid down in* the employer** manifesto are firmly' adhered to. Dunejmn, Sept, 23. The officers of the Ohau, 'which arrived at Port Chalmers to-day,- have decided to remain loyal to: the Union Company. Three non-Unionists were proceeding to the wharf, followed by a crowd of Union sympathisers, who were hooting. When opposite the Maritime Council offices one of the men is said to have, been struck by some person in the crowd, . whereon he drew a revolver. The effect was magical, every semblance of opposition ceasing* - J . The Union Company claim to have now 34 steamers running, and are em- ' ploying 2140 non-Unionists. Labour i» offering freely, and the Company say they can get enough to man every one of their steamers if necessary, while there i* a good supply of coal on hand and on the way to th« Colony- ' -':.-.. • ■• - ;! . Wkstpobt, Sept. 23, At the Resident Magistrate's Court today, Patrick Fitzsimmons, formerly donkeyman on the Orowaiti, was charged with assaulting the second mate of the Herald when on the voyage between Wellington and Westpqrt ; also on twocharges of assaulting the steward of the Mawhera when ashore here. Fitzeimmons was a passenger by the Herald, he being a Union man. The accused wa* fined JEI3 19b in all, with costs or seven weeks. The money was paid* .
