Sir Geo. Grey's Proposed Visit to Feilding
% Yesterday Mr Reading, as Secretary of the Knights of Labor, went to Palmerston to interview Sir George Grey on the subject of his suggested visit to Feilding. Sir George said that he had been unwell, and had delayed replying to Mr Beading's letter in the hope of his health permitting hip to be able to comply with the invitation. He eaid he would probably be passing from Wellington to Taranaki, when he would break the journey at Feilding and Wanganui, and would give sufficient notice for making his visits known. In hig enquiries re electoral matters in the Bangitikei district, he par icularly asked whether a labor candidate was likely to come forward, and when informed that such was the case he expressed himself as very pleased to hear it. The following letter has been handed to us for publication : — " Pahnerston, Sept. 21, 1890. uW. Beading, Esq., Secretary to the Knights of Labor. "Dear Sir, — I have refrained from answering your first letter in the continued hope that I might be able to answer it in the affirmative, for I much wished to visit Feilding ; but lam suffering from an attack of bronchitis, which my presence here has renewed, and I should certainly have to lay up for a few days before I could attend another meeting. I cannot, therefore, spare the time necessary to enable me to get to Feilding for the purpose of speaking there. Would you explain this to my friends, and in- > form them why I am not able to meet their wishes. — Faithfully yours, "G, Grby."
