THE PALMERSTON SEAT.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir,— A paragraph appeared in your issue of Thur-sday last to the effect that at a " meeting of the Knights of Labor " on Tuesday night Mr Fred Krani was unanimously chosen to be their candidate at the general election, and that Mr James Linton was to be requisitioned by persons willing to support his candidature he having consented to stand under certam conditions. Without donbting the accuracy of the above, I beg, in the interests of the "whole tnith,"to call attention to a telegraphic report which appeared in one of the Wellington papers on Wednesday last, sent by its own Palmston correspondent. This states that at a public meeting under the, auspices of the Knights of Labor, about 600 electors being present, 5 hands were held up in favor of the present candidate, Mr J G Wilson, 5 for Mr James Lihton, and over 500 for Mr Fred.Pirani,,the laCeS date. The report concludes by stating Mr Lmton said he would retire from the contest, and leave a clear field for the labor .candidate. It is, of course, just possible for both accouhts to be substantially correct, but out of fairness I think they should go together.— I am &c c.m.h.0.k.6!l
