The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, SEPT. 16, 1890. Political
♦ In connection with the report that there was a probability- Mr Ark wright would consent to contest the Palmerston seat, we have been authorised by that gentleman to state that such report is absolutely untrue. A telegram, published in the Manawatu Times yesterday, from Mr J. GK Wilson said, " I have decided to stand, on the understanding that I am relieved of all personal canvass." This will, bring local electoral affairs back to the position they occupied before Mr Wilson changed his mind. If a " labor" candidate is put up for Palmerston the chances of Mr JohnSteVens' return will be somewhat increased. If Sir Walter Buller enters the arena he will not nave a " ghost a show," as Jtie ia j now a pertoct «traßg>r to th# electors. »
A " stonewall " was commenced in the House last evening over the item " Judge Edwards' salary," the Opposition wishing the vote disallowed. The debate was kept going till 5.45 a.m., when the Chairman suggested they Hhould adjourn till 11 thiß morn* ing. This was agreed to. The House met at 11, when the debate was resumed by Mr Fish, but the galleries were still kept closed. At 1.5 p.m. an adjournment was made till 2.30.
