The Feilding Catholics and the Rev. Father Patterson
AN EXPEESSION OF SYMPATHY. On Sunday last at St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Chapel, after the celebration of mass at which a full congregation was present, and while the Rev. Father Patterson was yet at the alter, the gentlemen of the parish came forward and read the following address : — " We, the Catholic parishioners of Feilding, tender to you, Reverend Father, our heartfelt sympathy aud our condolence with you for the gross and scandalous insinuation thrown upon you by those who are. bad catholics in Palmerston North. We have always esteemed you a true priest and gentleman and we have the greatest confidence in you." Afterwards the ladies, one and all, waited on the reverend gentleman and expressed themselves in the same terms. The Rev. Father was much affuctel by this unexpected expression of goodwill and sympathy, and responded in feeling terms to them. Later in ths day a deputation waited on the editor of this journal and thanked him on the behalf of the Roman Catholics in the parish for the part the Star had taken by refusing to publish the telegram in which the attack was made on their reverend pastor.
