The biggest cheque ever drawn on and honoured by a bnnk was one of the Manchester S^jip Canal Company's, in pnytiient for the Bridgewater Navigation Company, the amount being about £1.---700,000. Another cheque of decent value was one for £<16,<i00. drawn by the great American banker, T and A. Haromeyor. payable to the Mutual Life Assurance Company <>{ New York, for a life insur ance premium. This must be a rfiinnrk able incident, at least to the insurance, world. A remarkable story of " lost in the bush" comes fr«m Walcha, in New South Wales. The other day a little girl was lost in the bush, and although every effort was made to trace her she was n«t found for four days. At the end of that limp she was found alive, and apparently lilfe the worse for the exposure. The child, who had only a light print dress on, had n'> food during the whole of the time, and as the weather was bitterly cold, and snow on the ground, it is difficult to understand how life was sustained. A dog and a goat accompanied the child for two days, but during the hitler half of her wander ings she was quite alone. The Bed House still keeps to the front. The new lines in Ladies and Childrens Ulsters, " The Moa Boots," new Table Mats, Glassware and Vases, new Lamps ; in fact a host of all the latest novelties — raust'b6»#aeis>.toi6jp.ppreelated. .Not only 2s each article newy bul good ati well. — Aj>vt.
