Pohangina Notes

[from: oub own correspondent.] During the fine weather which has prevailed for the last week, I was able to take a cruise round this part of the district. I saw a vast deal of improvements in the way of new buildings and fences in All directions, both in the Harbor Board and Foxton Small Farm Blocks. r lho only disadvantage I had when travelling round was the bad state of the roads. The Valley road has been impassable at times last month (July). There 1 a c been tons of slips of earth on the ro id, but it is getting into trim again. 1 see the Kiwitea Road Board have got three or four men clearing it off. The unmetailed roads are very soft now. The growth of grass here last week is something immense, and there is consequently abundance of feed tor stock. The peach blossoms will be out again soon as tlie buds are showing good signs. The settlers here are v- r busy in their gardens, and a large quan:ity of potatoe seed has already been planted ; also all kinds of vegetable seeds. Lambing has already began, and the increase promises to be v^ry favorable. I hear that a contract, let a short time ag) for road making in the Foxton Sin.ul Farm Block, has been thrown up by the contractor. I find there is a great deal of traffic up and down the Pohangina River, and people are making their way up a good distance. A good many sections of land i>re changing hands. Bushfelling is in good swing nov, and axes are ringing in all directions. Before long I hope to have a few days up the Pohangina River as I hear good accounts from that part.
