The Mangawhare Murder
[PEK UNITED JRESS ASSOCIATION. | Auckland, July 31. The life of Constable McLeod, at Mangawhare, was insuied for five bandied pounds. " Last night the body was taken to the lodgeroom ol the Masonic Lodge, St.' Geoige, Dargaville, deceased having been' Worshipful Mastei, arid service was held there. The body was afterwards taken on board the steamer to be forwarded to Auckland for''buiial. The. Masonic brethien -aud a large nnmber of the public, folthe coffin to the wharf. > , --; - Later. Constable McLeod's body arrived in' Auckland this afternoon and was taken to the residence of his brother. * The funeral is to be held to-morrow. Mrs McLeod (widow of the deceased) and her family of six young children came to Auckland this evening. Her relatives live at Warkworth, a country . district. Inspector Broham and Detective "Hughes left for Kaipara to-day, to <■ collect evidence, &c. Funeke is still lying at Dargaville, suffering from injuries received at the time of his arrest. ~-
