J Chbistchitbgh, July 31, The Graud Master of the New Zealand Grand Lodge of Freemasons to day received an intimation that Lodge Progress, South bridge, and Lodge Waitaki has decided to join the New Zealand Grand Lodge. Abraham Henry Denton, 57 years old, a cabman, hanged himself last night. His wife lefl him two years ago. and latterly he Has been in a despondent frame • of mind. Woodville, August 1; A skeleton found in the bash near Pahiatua is supposed to be that of C H. Weber, formerly Provincial Engineer for Hawkes Bay. The Superintendent of the Eastern Ext nsion Company informs the Evening Mail that the repairing s! earner Sherard ; Os borne has just recovered and buoyed the two ends of the Rosebuck Bay cable. The breaks in all three cables extended over an area 21 miles long, and one cable was recovered from a depth of 400 fathoms in excess of where it was laid originally, indicating an extensive subsidence in that region. DuNEDiNi July 31. Janet McCallum, widow, 55 years of age, died early this morning from the effect of " Bough on Bats," taken yester day. Her two sons were out during the day, and on returning found their mother ill, but it was not till a cup with " Bough : on Bats " in it was noticed that any- ; thing was suspected. Dr Coughtrey was at once sent for, and though he applied remedies and used the stomach pump, the woman died. The woman informed the doctor that she blamed drink for for what she had done, and it appeared , that occasionally she- took too much drink. A man named Harry Lonagban was accidently killed at the Cape Foulwmd quarries this afternoon. He was jammed between the buffer of the truck and the crane at which he was working at thetime. Deceased was a single man, and. about 24 years old.
