A Band Contest
« It was announced at the anniversary banquet of the. Feilding. Brasß Band-, by Mr R. F. Haybittle, who has had larg© experience in such matters, that the local men would hold a Band contest. Since then the members of the Band havefinally decided to do so next Easter. This, we have every confidence, will be hailed with satisfaction in the town and district. It is a bold movement, and therefore certain to command success. It is a well-known factthat the Bands of the North Island are far behind their Southern brethren, which condition may safely be attributed to the entire absence of those meetings whioh have done so much for the south. The Feilding Band have lately been supplied (at. their own cost, by the way) with new instruments, and should therefore be in a position equal to any other band of similar standing in the North Island. Apart from the advantages to the Band, so many visitora J to this rising, but not too weil-known, part ot the colony, cannot fail to do an immense amount of good; The idea is to at iri with the Feilding Easter race week, when other attractions will be offered to pleasure seekers; We Wdl refer further to this subject again.
