( PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. ! Auckland, July 22. ] Arrived— Wainui, from Tonga. ■ The High Coinmissiouer of the Western P.icifiu, Sir John Thuroton, visited Tonga in H.M.S. Rapid lately. The result is a ' startling crisis. Several Tongan chiefs swore if the Hon Rev Shi rely Baker, Premier, re- i mained in Tonga he would be assassiu- i ated, together with the chiefs associated with him. Sir J. Thurston then exer- . cised his powers under the Western Pacific Orders-iu- Council, and issued an order for Mr Baker's deportation, lie was offered accommodation on H.M.S. Rapid. Mr Baker declined aud took pas sages for himself aud family in the Wainui. Mr Baker's goods were bundled out of the hi'use, and all the servants left them, but the goods were afterwards returned by order of the Kiug, pending the departure of the Wainui. A new Tongan Ministry composed purely of natives has been appointed. Tukuaho is Premier, and a Fijian Minister of Lands.
