The Carnival

The Fancy Dress Skating Carnival held at the Rink on Tuesday evening iz the Assembly Booms was largely attended, the noyelty of the affair, and the fact thai the profits arising from it were to be presented to the Feeding Fire Brigade being no doubt the principal factors in causing such a good attendance. The characters represented were very numerous and various, and the costumes were for the most part very pretty, and in some cases must have been rather costly. The Grand March was not altogether a success, owing to the fact that no one appeared to thoroughly understand how it should be conducted. Dr Charlton, however, who led off, made the very best of the circumstances, and the effect, though not quite perfect, was very interesting both to the rinkers and spectators. We were unable to obtain a full list of the many characters represented, but among others the following were present :— Mrs Macarthur, Bachelor of Arts; Miss A. Macarthur, Witch; Miss L. Macarthur, Highland liassie ; Miss Bellairs, Welsh Woman ; Miss Moss, Bed Biding Hood ; Miss A. Moss, Tennis Costume; Miss Liddle, 1500; ; Miss Hastie, {Housemaid ; Misses y. Hastie and L. Beattie, Flower Girls ; Miss N. Parr, Venus; Miss Neil, Maritana; Miss A. Parr, Fortune-teller ; Miss Brossman, Gipsy Queen ; Mr Sandilands, Cricketer ; Mr Halcombe, Heathen Chinee ; Mr Manning, Page Boy ; Mr Dyer. Verdant Green; Mr Harley, Fred Barxett, jockey ; Mr A. Kennedy, Bunthorne (Patience) ; Dr Charlton and Mr Gibson, Evening Dress ; Mr Fanthorpe, Waiter ; Mr Saywell, Oriental Costume ; Mr F. Bray, Naval; Mr Beattie, Turk; Mr Newman, Second Mate; Mr Horsford, Cavalryman ; Mr Matravers, Constable. The Feilding Brass Band kindly gave their cervices, and discoursed some excellent music, thus adding to the completion of What was a very enjoyable entertainment.
