Constable Gillespie Committed for Trial

IPKK TTNITKD PBBSB ASSOOIATIOKi | New Pltmoitth, July 16. Constable Gilleopie was committed for trial at the Stratford Polios Court today for perjury. The case has excited a great deal of attention, it being an unusual thing for the police to be put on trial for the inaccuracy of ihe evidence they give in obtaining convictions. The case arose out of the evidenoe gjiven by Constable Oillespie at the last sitting of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth, when he swore that he had a conversation on a oertain day at Stratford with a man named Okey. Mr Okey produced evidence to show that he was 50 miles away on that day. . Bail was allowed in^two. sureties of 1/50 each.
