At the Police Court, William Black, a labourer, was charged on the information of Constable Eiddell with the murder, about the month of March, of Robert Streeter, at Whatatutu. Mr Booth, K.M., granted a remand till Monday, 21st inst. Later. At the present time little can be said of the circumstances which give cause for 1 the suspicions against William Black of ' murdering Robert Streeter. Hia disappearance took place in March last. The prisoner, Streeier, and two others were engaged in a fenoing contract on Foster's Station, and their camp was m a i rough bit of country eight miles from i the homestead. There was ill-feeling i between the two men on account of the attention paid by Black to Streeter's wife. One Sunday, as two of the camp » were leaving for Whatatutu for stores, i Streeter and Black left the camp to go shooting. Black returned without Streeter, and in reply to the questions . said they had quarreled, and the latter had taken the huff and cleared out. Since that time Black has been several times in town, and ha« liyed with Mrs Streeter as man and wife, To-morrow a search party scours the country in the vicinity of the camp in the hope of coming across human remains. Black, some time ago, was charged with criminally assaulting a Maori woman aged 90, who, how--1 evei , condoned the offence.
