Accidents and Fatalities
(PEE UNITED PHEBS ASSOCIATION) Westpobt, July 14. A man named Edward Hickey committed suicide by banging at Cape Foulwind last evening. Auckland, July 12. One of the natives of Mitiero, Raratonsjan village, hanged Dirnself on the morning of 4th June, as result of a love affair. July 14. On Saturday afternoon a number of lads started on r " hare and hounds' chase on the western suburbs. One of them, as the hound, was a lad named Thos. Wilson. The lads kept running (and walking at short intervals) for a hour and a half They had run up hill from Cotus creek for the finish when Wilson suddenly said " I'm done," and fell senseless. All efforts to restore him were fruitless and he died almost immediately. A sailor named Arthur Hardings, of the barque Largo Bay, fell from the mainyard to-day, fracturing hia skull. He died in the Hospital. In a -juvenile football match George Green was thrown by a lad who fell on him breaking hia leg. Invercargill, July 14. Wm. Mcc, a settler in the Chatton district, by being thrown from his horse received such injuries that he has since died. New Plymouth, July 14. An accident happened as the 4 p.m. train was leaving New Plymouth station to-day. An old German woman named Omanski, an inmate of the Old Women's Befuge, was on the train seeing some relative when the train started from the station as she was about to get out. She jumped off while the train was in motion, and broke her leg. She was taken to the hospital. Wellington, This Day. This Day. At the inquest on Mra Bennett, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, and acquitted everyone of blame.
