Fielding Borough Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday last. Pres- ~ ent— R Y. Lethbridge (Mayor), CrsS, J. Thompson, J. G. Thompson, W. E. Chamberlain, T, R. Chamberlain, Goodbehere, Butherford, and Watts. The minntes of the previous ordinary *nd special meetings were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. From the Secretary of the Feilding Tolunteer Fire Brigade asking the Council to adjourn so that members might patronise the show. . From the Captain of the same, asking the Council to take over the affairs and engine of the Brigade. . From G. T. H. Lyne, re certain cattle having been impounded, and asking the Council to refund the fees he had paid ; otherwise he will take further steps. Report of the Finance committee was of the Clerk of Works was read. The Mayor reported that he had seen Mr Macarthur about the purchase of certain lands required for the diviation of the Kimbolton road, and the cost would about £20 per acre. He also reported that he and Or Sandilands had waited on 4he Kiwitea Road Board with reference to the proposed works, and that Board would not take part therein unless under compulsion. Proposed by Gr Goodbehere, seconded ty Cr Rutherford, That the report of the (Finance Committee be adopted.— Carried. The Town Clerk was instructed to acknowledge receipt of the letter from Mr Proposed by Cr. Chamberlain, seconded i>y Cx Watts, That the balance sheets and statement (of the Borough) be adopted.— Oarried. The Fire Brigade business was ordered to be held over. Proposed by Cr J. C. Thompson, seconded by Cr Ti R- Chamberlain, That the Treasurer be authorised to draw £5 for jetty cash. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded *y Cr Rutherford, That the Mayor te requested to communicate with the Commissioner to the Government Life Insur--ance Department with a view to obtaining a reduction in the interest charged upon / the Feilding Borough Loan of £6000 obtained from that institution from seven to -«ix per cent. In speaking to the resolution Cr Goodbehere said that the Marton Borough ■Council had done this and succeeded. He lad written to the Clerk of that Council 4md been informed .that their application granted on the ground of equity, seeing that money was obtainable at much lower rates outside. Should this request he granted it would mean a saving of £60 .a year. .■ The Mayor said they were all obliged to Cr Goodbehere for bringing this proposal forward. The motion was carried unanimously. Cr Goodbehere brought up the sub] ect of the sinking fund, and as there was a "difficulty about investing it on mortgage Be suggested it be placed in a bank at interest. Proposed by Cr J. C. Thompson, seconded by Cr T. R. Chamberlain, That the lying to the credit of the Interest -Account be transferred to the Sinking 3?und Commissioners Account. — Carried. The Council then adjourned.
