The Hemp Trade
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, in their LondoUf circular of the 17th May, report on the hemp market as follows: — The Ne'w Zealand hemp market has 91 continued fairly steady during the ' past month, but there is a quieter feeling at the close. The reports re- ' cei ved from New Zealand of the reduced production this year have been fully confirmed, but in view of the large visible supply, both on the spot and afloat, and the low price ruling for sisal, this has not had any influence on the market. Some 5000 bales have been offered at public auction during the past month, of which about 2500 bales have been sold at and after the sales. Values for good to fine Wellington have Tanged from £21 10s to £24 per ton and very common half-dreaaed £14 10s to £15 10s per ton. Hackled descriptions have realised from l £ls j 10s to £16 10s per ton, and tow £7 j 10s per ton. . j
