Wanganui Education Board
The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held on Monday and Tuesday last. Pre-sent-Messrs G. Carson (in the chair), Stmsoii, Bridge, Baker, Fry, potman, Hurley, and Beckett. Minutes.— The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. . , . , . . ■Stoney Creek.— Mr Gilbert, thai Chairman of the Stoney Creek Committee, waited on the Board to urge the removal of the Stoney Creek Scho6lj and having stated bis views, retireiiLr-rOn the motion of Mr Fry, seconded by Mr .^auson, H was resolved that, " That the Board -sees no sufficient reasons to interfere with its former decision." : . ThY Board then went into committee, and upon resuming reported upon the following. Appointments :— The resignation of Mr: H. A. Warsop, of Crofton, waß read, he having been appointed relieving teacher.— Resolved, That the Inspector be authorised to grant a certificate to Mr Woodham of Foxton, — Resolved, That the names of Messrs Hill, Harrie, Woodham, , and Grant be forwarded to the Committee for appointment as head teacher at the Feilding school. — The application from Miss' Alicia Preridergast, of Stoney Creek, to be removed to Taohui was referred to the Executive. A letter was read from Mr Wilks, of Feilding, stating that he declined to accept notice of dismissal, and another from the same gentleman giving certain reasons for declining ; to accept the said notice. A letter was also read from the Feilding Committee, with a resolution re the dismissal of the teacher. Left, with the Executive. —A petition was read from the householders of Feilding re Mr Wilka. Petition -received. Resolved, That the Executive be empowered to reply to the letter from the Committee. Tuesday. j Pupil Teachers.— Mr Sanson moved, That the following suniß be added to the annual salaries, of pupil teachers — as per regulation seale — who. board from home, provided that the schools in which they work are situated not less than four miles from their homes: — 4th class, i>lo ; 3rd, £8) 2nd, £1; and Ist, £5. It' was resolved that the matter be referred to the Aided School Committee, and that Mr : Sanson's name be added to the Committee. .Correspondence. —^Resolved, That all communioaticns to the Board from parents and householders shall be sent through the Committees of their School Districts, except as regards disputed committee elections. • ■ Cheltenham. — Resolved to pay the amount voted for fencing, Mr Fry to see to the matter. - Mangaone. — Resolved that £ for £ be granted up to £5 for fencing. Apiti. — Resolved that Messrs 'Beckett and Fry be a committee to report re new school at Apiti. . ' • '■ Teachers' Residences.— Mr Bridge moyed, that when a teacher is leaving; a school, he must leave the residence in good repair— fair wear and tear excepted, and that he be expected to furnish the Board with a certificate to that effect from the chairman of Committee — or. in his absence, from two members of auch committee; and that the last months cheque be withheld till such certificate is. furnished. — Carried.
