McLean for £200 a-eWe and the championship of the world was rowed this afternoon oa the Parramatta River. Kemp was the favourite., Both men gripped wateV together, and Kemp, with a stroke of 41, slightly led his opponent, who was palling the same stroke. A gr« a race took place to TJhr's Point, where* Kemp took a leading position, and crossing over to the beacon, bjr^increased his advantage to two lengths. McLean at this time was,/dipping deeply and pulling a jerky stroke. Kemp shot the mile post in 6min 16aec, and the race at- this time was the greatest ever rowed on the Crossing at Putney, the champion gained another length and here McLean made a* brilliant' spurt, but was unable to reduce the gap, as Kemp with the greatest ease maintained his advantage and won as he liked by six lengths. Time, 2lmin 46fseo. McLean rowed a very plucky race. Kemp has challenged O'Connor to row for the championship.
