It is a good looking building of 23 rooms, and adds veiy much to the appearance of the township. , Mr kelson, the proprietor, expects to get a license, and then ' the . hitherto', neglected young men of Ashurst will be able to get -a drink without having to take it on the *ly, or go tp the bridge for one. _ . We are to have a contested election for -warden. The retiring member, Mr Reeve, . has consented to be renominated, and he ought to be returned without opposition. He has done his duty faithfully and well ■on the Manchester Road Board, and attended tp the business of the ward impartially. He never had an axe tb grind,' so One part of the ward was 'the same as another to bun. However, the nominators' *■ of the other candidate, Mr Ingram, appear to think the. latter will do better still. "Whether he' will or not remains to be seen — after he gets' iii— Which I should judge is very unlikely. [Our correspondent is in error, Mr Reeve was returned unopposed.— Ed. F.S.J La Grippe, or something, like it, has been rather busy up the Pohangina, a .good many children and adults having been attacked, so many indeed that the Pohangina school had to be closed for a few days. ■_ -
