THE COACH ACCIDENT NEAR BIRMINGHAM.

. To the Ratepayers of Birmingham and the surrounding District. I ■ ; .. :. . Gentlemen, — Just a few words concerning the late fatal coach accidentand the portion of the road on which it happened. Now, as for that part of the road I think, with many others whom I have spoken to concerning it, that it was a gross piece of neglect, or ignorance} upon the part of the person who laid it oiit, as the road could have . been taken along the brow of the terrace, running through, Mr Bryce's property, with far less expense. . Then, we .would have had a bit of good level road to travel upon instead, of having to run' down into that deep and dangerous gnllyy as it has proved to be, and up, the other side. That part of the road has always been, to a certain extent a. draw back to the settlers living in and around Birmingham, owing to their having to put on three horses to bring an ordinary two horse load over that portion of the road. I believe the majority of. the travelling public will join with me in saying that that part of the road should be diverted from the gully to the brow of the terrace before mentioned. There is no telling who may next be the victim of another accident. I would say to those whe fctake any interest in their welfare now. is your chance to try and get the road altered. To those concerned I would say take theVJ matter in hand with a right, good, earnest determination to have.it done, and $hW as Boon as possible. I will conclude by saying I trust ' that those concerned will not be so blind to their own welfare as to let the matter drop^thout farther effort, but that they v start a requisition, get it numerously signed^ and forward it- to the Government o.rj the Road -Board, requesting that the piece of ground be purchased and. the deviation in the road' be made as soon as possible.— 1 I am, &c., - W. E. Chamberlain.
