Manchester Road Board
The ordinary, monthly meeting of the above board was held on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs M^carthur (chairman), Pearee, Wheeler, Purkisa and Beeve. . The minutes of the previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From C. Pharazyn, S. Shepherd, J. Johnston, Gr. A. Jackson, and H. Mudeway, re change of names on rate roll. J. Jefferies,. a king permission to put a gate on Forlon^'s road. Q. A. Jackson, re felling voadline. Treasury Office, requesting newspaper with advertisement of intention to borrow. Same, re voucher for £2322.' General Survey Office, re control of Cheltenham Cross road vested in Kiwitea Road Board, with copy of proclamation. Colonial Secretary's Office, re copy of special order for levying rate, and gazetting same J. B. Tait, re tolls for calves paid under protest. W. A. L. Bailey, asking the Board to help him in making road from Main road to his house. Property Tax Office, re scheme "for expenditure of rates on Native lands for 1889-90,. and the Surveyor-General's exception to spending £56 7s 6d on span to Onepuhi bridge. A. Nathan, authorising J. MeColl to receive moneys for certain contracts. Goodbehere and Richmond, with bill of costs re Reid and the Manchester Road Board. From A. C. Ritchie, acting secretary Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, re the Board's application for £19. From Treasury Office, re payment into tbe bank of 10s fines under Bog Registration Act. . . . From -T. Bogan, deed of indemnity re drain on Pahnerston -Ashurst road. From Madson and .Klink, asking for extension of time on contract through alleged scarcity of men. Proposed by Mr Purkiss, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That G. E. Little's name be placed on the rate roll instead of C. Pharazyn for sections 3, 4, 28, 29, 32 and 33 ; S. Shepherd instead of Younger and Laing for section 21, O ; Hocken Bros, instead of J. Johnston for section 8, G ; L. Lursen instead of G. A. Jackson for section 83 to 118, 138, 139, 142, 147 to 150 and 155 to 157 Mugby junction ; C Volkert instead of S. Mudgway for section 10 J. Proposed by Mr Pearee, seconded by Mr Macarthnr, That the Clerk inform Messrs Madson and Klink that the Board cannot grant an extension of time on account of the metalling contract which is to follow and that fines will be strictly enforced. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That permission be given to the railway employees to impound strayed animals on the roads by the sides of the railway from Oroua river to Bunnythorpe, and that an authority be signed and sealed with the seal of the Board, authorising Mr Hankey or his agent to impound. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss; That tenders be called for the alteration on Wilson's line at the junction of the Wai tuna road. — 'Carried. ■ Proposed by Mr Reeve, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That Mr Lethbridge and the' chairman be a committee to deal with tenders to be in by the 15 £h of March for unlet works in No. 5 ward and contracts on Wilson's line and Makara road. — Carried. The Board then went into committee for the purpose of opening and dealing with tenders for works in No, 5 ward. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That the lowest tenders be in all cases accepted for works in No. 5 ward tendered for to-day, subject to sureties being approved by a; committee consisting of Messrs Macarthur and Lethbridge, if sureties be not approved other- tenders to be accepted in their due order. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That tenders be called for improving and fencing the hill on Makara road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pnrkisa, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That notice be given of the intention of the Board to make a rate of three farthings in the £ on the rateable value of all rateable property within the the Manchester Road District for the year ending March 31st 189Jn. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Pearee, seconded by Mr Macarthur, That permission be given to Mr Je3enes to erect a gate on Fbrlong's road for three months froni date, on condition that he receive the consent of the contractor. — Carried.
