The Auckland Leper
— : * _ (PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION) Auckland, February 20. No reply has yet been received to tho communications made with the Goyeminent in regard to the Chinese leper- Ah Goon. The friends of the patient are inclined to the belief that the disease is not leprosy but lupus, a form of blood poisoning, as stated by Hitchens, a seller of medicine, who is treating the case. Dr Bakewell, who has had some years' experience of leprosy, . maintains that there is no doubt that the latter is the malady which has. attacked Ah Goon. The patient came to Auckland direct from China about five years ago.
