Cases of Leprosy
(PER UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, February 18. A medical man declares that the St. Clair case is one of true leprosy, and thinks the patient should be removed, not because of, the risk to the neighborhood, but because the man requires careful nursing. • The case of the Portuguese leper Silva -was discussed at the Benevolent Institution Trustees' meeting to-day, the person who has : been keeping him having intimated that no one is attending the leper and he will die unless be receives attention. The Trustees decided to forward the letter to the Board of Health. • Auckland,' February 18. A -Chinaman named Ah Goon, living at Arch Hill, a suburb of the city, has been found to be suffering from leprosy in an advanced stage. The patient, when found to be ill, was taken to Dr Bakewell,who at once decided the nature of the disease. Ah Goon states that the first spot of the malady appeared about three -years ago. He has been isolated, and Inspector Bro•bam, of the police force, and Mr Steadman, Chairman of the Arch Hill Road Board, have communicated with the Coloanal Secretary, asking .for instructions as to what shall be done in the case. The patient is one of the Chinese market -gardeners,* and has been pursuing his avocation in and out of town.
