At the annual meeting of "the Nelson District Court of Foresters, a resolution was carried tbat the members of Parliament for the Nelson district be requested to oppose by all means in their power the proposed Railway Employes Insurance Bill. Dunedin, February 17. George Taylor, a young man^ was drowned in the Waipou river. He was Undressing when he slid off the bank into water eight feet deep, and sank after a slight struggle- without' coming to --the surface. yy S Woodville, February 17 Robert Atkinson, a settler -in7 the Mangahao, having been reported missing, search, was made and his body wasfound -.under a tree, which had evidently fallen on him and killed him instantaneously. The body had been dead for a fortnight. Deceased was formerly employed at Petone Woollen Mills. The agitation for removal of the Government toU at the; Gorge is being renewed, and the Pahiatua and Waipawa County Councils are to be asked to mamtain the Gorge road from general revenue if Government will remove the toll. Wellington, This Day. The Mariposa, with English mails of 24th January,, left 'Frisco for Auckland on the Bth instant contract date. The Zealandia, with Colonial mails of 27th Jauuary arrived at 'Frisce from 1 Auckland oh the 16th instant, one day late. Messrs Whitaker aud Stevens have been summoned to Wellington to take part in a full Cabinet meeting' next week. At present there is no intention on the part of the Government of Convening Parliament earlier than usual. Some time in May will be the probable date.
