Kiwitea Road Board
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday last. Pres- . «Nt— Messrs Taylor (chairman), Williamson, Lucas, Baythorne, Fowles, Reid, and Mais. The minutes of the last ordinary meet- ( ing were read and confirmed. The -following correspondence was read : From E. J. vMalverton, asking that his ' tiame be placed on the roll for section 25, ■Block X, Pohangina. i From R. Taylor, iunr., asking that the Board fell.bush on road line fronting section 14,. block XVl,, pago. . . ; , From Commissioner of Crown Lands, . re Waituna road. From Treasury, applying for the half year's interest on loans, JBII3 13s 4d. From Commissioner of Property Tax, with voucher for payment of Crown Lands Bates, ±192 12s 6d. From F. Vowles, objecting to pay his xates as he had not a vote at the last election. : ' . From Chief Surveyor, asking for particulars ot contract on Oroua Valley road. From J. Miller, asking for permission to use a tree lying on road line. From A. F. Perry, asking that his name be placed on rate roll for section 199, Kiwitea. From settlers in Pemberton Block, asking that the rates in hand be spent in improving main road. From C. Sherlock, asking permission to fall bush on a street in Birmingham township. From Wanganui Harbor Board, giving particulars of sections sold in then* Endowment Block. From W. A. SancUlands re Onepuhi bridge enquiry. From Surveyor-General, with result of enquiry re Cheltenham Cross road. Voucher from Treasurer for JlB7, being 76 per cent of subsidy. From J. Lumsden, applying for pay-, ment for felling bush on road line. With reference to the Onepuhi bridge enquiry, Mr Taylor stated that the decision was a very a unjustone, and he would like to have a really good opinion as to ■whether the- Kiwitea Board could be made to pay. With reference to the Cheltenham Cross road he never knew a case ■where the centre pf the road waß boundary .of two local bodies, where the share paid by each body for maintenance was not halt The other members endorsed the Chairman's remark* Mr Williamson moved, and Mr Taylor seconded, That application be made for copies of Mr Brabant's reports re Onepuhi bridge and Cheltenham Cross road. — Carxied. Re Mr Sherlock's requestto fell roadline in Birmingham township, it was decided to hold it over till next meeting for attendance of the Warden for Apiti. Tie request of settlers in Pemberton was treated in a similar manner. Proposed by Mr Fowles, seconded by Jlr Lucas, Thiat Mr Miller be allowed to mse the totara tree mentioned by him on payment to the Board of the sum of 10s. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the application of E. J. Milverton to be placed on the roll instead of J Sykes be granted, and from P. Brown to A. J. Perry.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr That the tender of P. Hanlon for Stalling Z'ig Zag road atls lid, and Pollook's road at is 7£d per yard, as accepted foy'the Warden and Engineer, be accepted by the Board.— Carried. The application of R. Taylor for the Board to fell bush on road line was held over for attendance of the Warden for the •Onso ward* Mx J. R- Davis and Mr Purcell waited n the Board, and asked if anything could be done to open a track to their sections on tbe continuation of McKay's road. Tbey were informed that as soon as the money arrived from the Government the work would be commenced.
