Manchester Boad Board

A special meeting of the above was held on Saturday. Present— Mr Reeve (chairman), Wheeler, Pearce and Lethbridge. The chairman stated the objects of the meeting. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Lethbridge (pro forma), That as this Bpard does not wish to be included in the BpSsj^i supporting the Palmerston Hospital the appointment of a delegate may be misconstrued',, and therefore the motion passed on February Ist, that " Mr Macarthur be appointed a delegate to represent the Manchester Road Board on a committee for the purpose of choosing a site for the hospital for this district, also a plan for same" be rescinded. — Carried. The mover said the feeling of the district was against our being rated for the of a hospital in Palmerston. Mr Lethbridge thought that if we had to have a hospital in the district Palmerston was the place for it. The chairman thought they could do else but rescind the motion. There was undoubtedly a feeling in the against a hospital in Palmerston. Mr Wheeler made. some comments on the extravagant -expenditure of the Charitable Aid funds in Palmerston, and drew the conclusion that a similar result would follow if they had the control of the hospital funds.. Proposed by Mr Pearce, seconded by Mr Lethbridge, That a special rate of f of a penny in the pound be made upon the tfche rateable value of the' whole of tbe rateable property (Crown aud Native Lands occupied by Native owners ex- i •cepted) within the boundaries ef No. 6 ; .•sub-division of; the Manchester Road .Board district, for the purpose of paying interest on a loan of £4750, to be borrowed Hinder "** The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," such rate to be an annual recurring rate for 26" years, and payable in one 'sum at the Board's office on the first day of April in each year.— CarMed. The Board then adjourned.
