A HANDSOME DONATION. AN M.P. IN TROUBLE. Received February 13, 12.25 p.m. London, February 12. In the House of Lords, the Marqttis ofSalisbury, referring to the Zambesi difficulty, stated that the Portuguese Government had been repeatedly warned that. England would not give her assent to the claims of. Portugal, but at the same time had instructed that she was willing, at any opportunity, to enquire into the matter, and the matter might have been arranged had not Major Pinto intervened. As it was, the English Government had been compelled to speak their decision in order to avert bloodshed, and probably danger to the Portuguese monarchy. Reverting to Irish affairs, he mentioned that 152 cases of boycotting had taken place, but agrarian crime had decreased by nearly two-thirds. In the House of Commons, the motion tabled by Sir Vernon Harcourt that the forged Parnell letters published by The Times was a breach of privilege, was defeated on division by 262 to 112. Mr Parnell, in the course of the debate, accused the Government of meanness and cowardice, and he concluded with moving an amendment io the address, with the view of raising the whole question of Irish administration.. Mr Lewis Henry Isaacs, M.P. for "Wallworth, was to-day fastened in a room by his paramour, and as he refused to sign a cheque at her request, she shot him with a revolver. His injuries are not of a'serious nature. Lisbon, February 12. The patriotic meeting in the Collosenm has been dispersed by the police, and thirty of the principals been arrested.
