Kiwitea Boad District
FEILDING SMALL SETTLEMENT. TO THE Kl>lT'»» <F THE SI AH. Sir, — I hope lam aottaking too much space in your valuable paper, but as^a aratepayeg to the Kiwitea Road District I »na very much interested in the following subject : I notice that Mr P. Cavanagh Jbas been put inspector over the roads in the above Block aud other small farm blocks. What I want to know is — Has ■the Engineer put him in that position and, also, has the Engineer any authority to . >do so without consisting .the Kiwitea Road Board and, also, who is paying birri for . 3baing Inspector over the above roads ? It is understood by most of the te .lers:thafc *he Engineer is paying him out of his own jpocket. : Is that so ? If the ratepayers are paying for his services as Inspector tKe sooner lie is removed from thai" position the better, as itis causing great dissatisfaction amongst the settlers. — I am, &c, Ratepayer. (The- Engineer is employing and paying Cavanagh privately, therefore the Road Board have nothing to do with the appointment. The" Engineer alone is re •sponsible for the final passing of all <cont/act work, and he only employed Ca\ anagh because of the extra pressure of the work in No. 5 ward, which is now completed so far as "laying off' is concerned.—Ed. P.S.]
