"Destitute Children"
The following letter from Dr Bernado to Mr W. Car the w, of this town, has been handed us for publication : — " 18 to 26, Stepney Causeway, " London E., 22nd November, 1889. 11 Dear Sir, — I was much gratified to receive a few days ago your most kind letter with its welcome enclosure representing the Christian sympathy, in so practical a form, of numerous friends in and near Feilding. Need I say that it is a source of much encouragement in the midst of arduous labors to know that j friends distant from my work are yet looking on with such deep sympathy and are helping me by their prayers and support to fight the battle which rages so fiercely in the lowest parts of our great cities. It is most encouraging too to learn that the editor of the Feilding Star has so willingly opened his columns for the adyocacy of the claims of our homeless and destitute children. I hope he will reprint some of the narratives of rescue from " Night and Day," which I. am sending to him, in his journal. This would, I am sure, be fruitful of good results. In sending you my customary official receipt, may I beg that you will make known to your co- contributors the fact of the arrival of their gifts and of the welcome with which these were received, and | the gratitude which their kindness has evoked ? All- my children would with one voice send a hearty " thank you " if they could. Over 3200 destitute children are nowimder my care, and daily our doors are opening to new eligible candidates. We j never refuse admission to a destitute child applying for aid, and every night we are at work searching amongst the lowest lodging houses for neglected and destitute little ones. — Yours, &c, "Dr T. J.Barnardo."
