At Cardwell, 950 miles north . of here, 49in of raiu was registered in nine days. The outlook is serious, and it is anticipated that enormous damage has been done. One Chinaman wa3 killed and two persons injured. The premises of Levy Bros. & Co., general importers, Little ColUns Street East, which is a five-storey building, were destroyed by fire. Damage is estimated at £30,000. __
