Kiwitea Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday last. Present — Messrs Taylor (chairman), Williamson, Haythorne, Fowles, Lucas, Homer, and Shannon. . . Shannon, re change of names on rate roll. Proposed by Mr Fowles, seconded by i Mr Homer, That the following alterations be made on rate roll :— E. Wilhehn/instead of G. J. Wilhelm for section .7, block i 111, Pemberton Block; S. A. E. Cooper, instead of J. Saxon for section 34 and 35, Pohangina ; and A. H. Thompson instead;of G. H. Shannon for sections -14 and 17, Block X, Apiti. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Haythornq, seconded i by Mr Shannon, That renewals of slaugh- : tering. licenses be granted to Mr Burne , and J. R Simpson for. the year 1890, arid that the fee for such license be fixed at £1 for the coming year. — Carried. / Proposed by Mr Taylor seconded by Mr 1 Williamson, That J, Strawbridge. be allowed to fell bush on the road line-front--1 ing section .165, on the Board's usual : terms. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Fowles, seconded by Mr Lucas, That leave of absence for this ' meeting be granted to -Warden Reid.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr; Shannon, That the chairman take the necessary steps for a poll, to be/taken;in the different wards that haye > already; made application for loans, namely, Foxton Special Settlement, Ohgo, Hautapu and Apiti wards A discussion ensued in which several members argued the advisabdity of separation as the only way- of getting but of, i the difficulty, andraisingthe differentloans. ' Mr Homer intimated that if a ;-*pqli was not taken for a loan the ratepayers in ;his district would at once go in for separation.; Messrs Lucas and Williamson suggested, a poll being taken for the whole amount required. The motion was carried. • Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Fowles, That Mr Diffey be paid the sum of .£4 10s for bush felling on road line, permission to do so having been granted in July 1887, and that a portion of the coming thirds be spent in forming a track 'along the Association road, if approved of by the Land Board. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Homer, That Mr N. Charlton and Mr Ackerman be informed that the ward has no funds at present for doing the works asked for, but they will be seen to when the thirds are received from the Government. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the secretary write to the Manchester Boad Board demanding the sum of .£ll 2s 3d, being half the sum paid for felling road line from Taonui road to river, between Harbor Board Block and Manchester Block, also pointing out that application was made to the Manchester Road Board to bear portion of cost of this work at the time the work was being done, and they declined on the plea of non-lia-bility. As they were clearly liable at that time by the boundary line being in the centre "of the road, the settlement of'this claim is.merely a matter of right and justice. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Fowles, That the secretary reply to Mr Hunt, re petition, and point out that the Board is expending about £200 now on the Pohangina road, and that the Engineer be instructed to put down a few loads of metal so as to make the road passable to the school. — Carried. Tenders were opened for works and the" following were accepted :— Oroua Valley road, F. O'Leary, £295 9s 4d ; Nos. 1 and 2 Ridge road, A. Nathan, £230 and £67 ; Upper Cross road, A. Nathan, • "Williamson's road east, F. O'Leary ; Benson's road, Younger and Laing ; metalling Valley road T. Coker, Is 7£d per yard ; No. 2 line Awahou-Pohangina, McKenzie. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Fowles, That the Engineer be instructed to have the necessary work of maintenance on Oroua Valley road carried out, also on the Apiti traok.— Carried. After passing accounts for payment the Board adj ouvned.
