Marriage at Halcombe

I (from ottk own cobbespondent.) Woodlawn, near. Halcoinbe, the residence of Bobt. Linton, Esq., J.P., was the scene of an interesting event, on Wednesday last, ' when Miss Linton was -mMvimomallj jcmefl $<? Mr WiUjara T^ergusson, also of the same district. The day, considering the rough weather we have had lately, deserved to be called " Queen's weather." " Happy is the bride the sun shines on" was repeated by more than one visitor. The popularity of the young and happy couple made*the invitation of a great many friends quite impera- ' tive. The spacious room where the important business of the day was completed was" crowded by a large number of relatives and friends. Beautiful simplicity characterised the dresses and clothing of the bride and bridegroom, bride's maids, &c, gaudy display being remarkable by its' absence — the scene reminding us of " long ago" ere common seitse and good taste was usurped on such occasions by vanity and extravagance. The impressive' and- solomn marriage ceremony of the Primitive Methodist connection was conducted by the Bey. Walter Harris, assisted by the Key." G. E. 'Ward, of Wellington. Congratulations over, the guests retired to the front verandah, which was comfortably enclosed and- tastefully decorated, where a long table was furnished with an, abundant and varied supply of refreshments. About 5 o'clock the bride and bridegroom were ready to leave for their new-'hoine in the upper Taonui district, over twenty miles away. The singing of a suitable hymn, prayer by Mr Harris, final good byes and wishes from everybody, and they were oil saluted with abundance of rice and three cheers by the assembled guests. Amongst the many beautiful wedding presents on view were a clock and barometar combined, and a silver inkstand, presented at the anniversary soiree on Monday evening, from the congregation and choir of the Halcoinbe Primitive .Methodist Church; as a token • of their appreciation of Miss Liriton's services while in charge, of the harmonium. Mr Harris, at the samo time, preseuted her with a beautiful copy .of the new " Hymnal and mxisic, ' bound in Morroeco. The numerous guests remained, till late in the evening, enjoying themselves -at various out door games. .
