London, Novpm^er 29 J J. W. Laurie, who was sentenced to death for the murder of a tourist named Rose, al GoatfelJ, Island of Arran, some months back, and subsequently reprieved, has been sentenced to penal servitude for life.
The motion tabled by Mr Burns at the meeting of the Strike Executive, that the balance in the hands of the . Dockers' Union- should be applied to the purpose of maintaining their position and lelieving distresss, has been carried. It is asserted that Cardinal Manning approved the motion. Mr Bradlaugh has left England on - a sea-voyage for the benefit of his health. Obituary— Martin Farquhar Tupper, F.R.S., &c, the well-known "poet arid prose writer, whose work of " Proverbial Philosophy went through countless editions. The deceased descended from au ancient German and Guernsey family, and was 79 years of, age. November 30.
