Connolly «nd Blake for No. 4 at £114: be accepted, also that "the tender of A. McKenzie for the Terrace road at 28s per chain, conditionally that he complete the work and be paid the "balance when the ward is hi funds. • ' ' Mr Lucas proposed, That the members attending this Board have their expenses paid. In speaking to the motion Mr Lucas said he thought that as some of the mem"bers had to come a long distance it was only fair that they should have their actual expenses paid. The Government had decided 'that the Board,- through the Counties Act being suspended, had the powers of a County Council, and if so they had the 'power to pay the necessary expenses of members. At any rate he proposed the motion in order to test the matter. Mr Homer seconded. Messrs Reid^ahd- Homer both spoke in favor of the motion. Mr Williamson , was of opinion that it could not legally be done. The chairman suggested that instead of putting it down as " necessary expenses" it would be better to name the amount per day. Mr "Williamson thought the amount should be proportionate to. the distance travelled, and a -maximum and minimum be fixed. The chairman euggested that the amount be 10s per day. Mr Homer said that would not be fair, as town members would gain by it, ■whereas he for one would still be'a loser, 1 and rather than accept 10s he would prefer to take nothing, and attend the meeting for the honor of the thing. ; - After further discussion the motion was altered, to the effect that members travelling under 20 miles receive 10s, and those . travelling over. 20 miles 20s each day oi attending the" meetings and-in this form the motion iwas carried. The Board then 'went into committee for the purpose 'of discussing the mattei of the Commission •re the Cheltenham Cross Road boundary, and ultimately the chairman was .instructed to take the necessary steps to 'secure the attendance of counsel and witnesses,' &c. After passing accounts for payment the Board adjourned. ' ' ,
