Fatal Fire at Masterton
LP*CB UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION. J Masteeton, November 18. A fire, the circumstances surrounding which have not yet. been fully brought to light, occurred near the Kuru paui railway statiou about 8 o'clock las f . night. From the facts to hand it appears Mrs Charles George (Jarueiou, having put her two children — the elder v girl of three years, to bed and blew out the light and went out to see her sister-in-law, who lives only a short distance ■• away. Not many minutes later an alarm of fire was raised, aud it was found that Cameron's house was afire. Mrs Cameron at once ran home, aud found that the bedroom in which the two .childreu had been left wassail ablaze. She dashed in, however, and carried out both of them. The younger one, ■ who occupied a cot, was found to be> uninjured, but the other, who had been put in a bed, was so badly burnt that it died in two hours. The house together with its contents, was completely destroyed. Mr Cameron, who is a well-known contractor,' states that he had £60 in cash in the , house, nearly the whole being in notes, and these were also destroyed.
