During the recent visit of Mr O'Connor, Postmaster- General, to Melbourne, he had several interviews with the representative of the Eastern extensionCable Company, relative to the proposed duplication of the cable between New .South Wales and New Zealand. The result of the interviews- was embodied in a minute which will shortly be considered m the Cabinet, * v The strike among the Broken Hill miners, owing, to the engagement of blacklegs, has, been satisfactorily arranged, and the men will resume work.

The Howard, which arrived from Kaipara yesterday, experienced moat violent weather .on the voyage across, and is making water. In order to save the yessel, 40', 000ft of kauri timber had to be jettisoned. ' The Load Bill will be, it is expected, for between three and fire millions to be spent on railway works. The Stock Conference has ended.
