Federation for the Colonies
By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright (PER TJNITEn PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, November 13 . The Hon. F. 0. Fysh,. Premier .and Chief Secretary of Tasmania, has written to Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, a letter, which^is regarded'as expressihg the opinions of the colonies, supporting the proposal for a Federal. Council. :Mr , Fysh ssays that Sir Henry Parkes' scheme is larger than necessary for the defence of tho colonies,- and while it appears the desire to have a parliamentary discussion on the subject, the fact that a Federal Council exists, . should be remembered, and it was possible to work through it to broader federation. He suggests { that a . Conference, composed of members of the Federal Council, say four from each colony, including New Soutb Wales, meet to agree to. the resolution,' and to decide at once. the best form in which to submit the'sciieme of federal " defence to the sev- - eral Parliaments, . and from thern to the . Federal Council. In his'; reply Sir Henry "Parkes says the-, time has already come to complete. .the federation. . The matter of defence -would., only lead^up to other questions of national importance.
